Will beauty save the world?
I'm a ceramicist based in London, making functional vessels that are designed to be used in your everyday routine.
I want to bring beauty back into everyday life. My work is inspired by Japanese and Korean forms and techniques, as well as the utilitarian elegance of early English slipware. I'm heavily influenced by Bernard Leach, Yanagi Sōetsu, and William Morris.
The joy I get through making comes from allowing the clay to express its qualities, rather than forcing it into a compact and unnaturally uniform state. My pieces are tactile: rough yet soft, hard but light. I create texture using my own handmade brushes and found objects - rocks, shells, sticks. Each piece is unique, and each piece holds a part of its maker.
'Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.' William Morris
Commissions
I'm open to taking commissions, provided that they fit within my style and are within my capacity at the time. Please note that pottery is a multi-step process, and the lead time on commissioned pieces is one month at minimum. If you're interested in commissioning a piece, please get in touch.
